Jean Smart is an American actress, She made her Broadway debut as Marlene Dietrich in Piaf in 1981. The play was later revived in Hollywood as a television series, starring Jean Smart in the same role. This foray into the small screen led to her landing the lead role in the sitcom Designing Women in 1986
